Analog Clock

A live clock face with a smooth sweeping second hand.

Options

  • Numerals: 1–12, Roman (XII, III, VI, IX…) or a clean dial with only tick marks.
  • Smooth sweep glides the second hand like a mechanical or quartz-sweep watch; turn it off for a classic one-tick-per-second movement.
  • Digital time shows the time in numbers below the face.

Reading the hands

The short hand points to the hour and moves gradually between numbers — halfway between 3 and 4 means about half past three. The long hand counts minutes: each number is five minutes, so pointing at 4 means 20 minutes past. For practice with draggable hands, try the teaching clock.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the hour hand sit between two numbers?

Like a real clock, the hour hand moves a little every minute. At 3:30 it is halfway between 3 and 4.

What do Roman numerals on a clock mean?

I = 1, V = 5, X = 10. So IV is 4, IX is 9, and XII is 12. Many traditional clocks show 4 as IIII instead of IV.
