How to use the cube timer
- Scramble your cube with the moves shown (white on top, green in front).
- Press and release Space to begin the 15-second inspection.
- Hold Space until the time turns green, then release to start. Press any key to stop. On a phone, press and hold the timer instead.
Mark a solve +2 or DNF in the list, or delete it. Your session is saved on this device.
How ao5 and ao12 are calculated
An average of 5 takes your last five solves, drops the fastest and slowest, and averages the middle three. ao12 does the same with twelve solves. A DNF counts as the slowest; two DNFs make the whole average a DNF. Under WCA rules, starting after 15 seconds of inspection adds +2, and after 17 seconds the solve is a DNF — this timer applies both automatically and beeps at 8 and 12 seconds.
Frequently asked questions
What does ao5 mean in cubing?
Average of 5: of your last five solves, the best and worst are removed and the remaining three are averaged. It is the format used for most WCA events.
How do scrambles work?
Each scramble is 20 random face turns in standard notation (R = right face clockwise, R' = counterclockwise, R2 = half turn), avoiding repeated or cancelling moves.
Can I use the timer on a phone?
Yes. Press and hold the timer area until it turns green, release to start, and tap anywhere on it to stop.
