How to use the metronome

  1. Drag the slider or use −/+ to set the tempo (30–250 BPM). Arrow keys nudge it by 1.
  2. Don't know the tempo? Tap Tap tempo (or press T) in time with the music — four taps are enough.
  3. Choose a time signature. The first beat of each bar is accented with a higher click and a brighter light.
  4. Press Start or Space.

Accuracy: clicks are scheduled ahead on the Web Audio clock rather than with page timers, so the beat stays steady even if the page is busy.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this online metronome?

Very. Each click is scheduled on the audio hardware clock about 100 ms ahead, so timing doesn't drift or stutter the way simple timer-based metronomes can.

How does tap tempo work?

It averages the time between your last few taps and converts it to beats per minute. Pausing for more than two seconds starts a fresh count.

What BPM should I practise at?

Start slow enough to play cleanly — often 60–70% of the target tempo — then raise it a few BPM at a time once it feels easy.
