How to calculate overtime
- Enter your regular hourly rate.
- Choose weekly (hours over 40 in a week) or daily (hours over 8 in a day) and enter your hours. Hours can be decimals (42.5) or h:mm (42:30).
- Pick the overtime multiplier: 1.5× is standard, 2× for double time.
The overtime pay formula
Overtime pay = overtime hours × hourly rate × multiplier. Total pay = regular hours × rate + overtime pay.
Example: 46 hours at $20/hour → 40 × $20 = $800 regular, 6 × $30 = $180 overtime, $980 total.
Overtime rules vary by country, state and contract; this tool does the math, not legal advice.
