How to use the name picker

  1. Paste or type your names, one per line (duplicates are kept, so you can weight a name by adding it twice).
  2. Press Spin or the space bar. The names cycle and slow down before landing on one.
  3. Leave Remove picked names on so nobody is picked twice until everyone has had a turn, then press Put everyone back.

Tips for teachers

Frequently asked questions

Is the name picker truly random?

Yes. Every remaining name has the same chance each spin, chosen with your browser's cryptographic random number generator. The spinning animation is only for show.

Are my students' names uploaded anywhere?

No. The list stays in your browser (saved locally so it is there next time) and is never sent to a server.

Can I stop the same student being picked twice?

Keep Remove picked names ticked. Each picked name is set aside until you press Put everyone back.
